Alternate Bus Routes for Chappaqua Schools

Some routes will not run, while others will have limited stops. Centralized spots will serve as morning pickups only.

(In reopening after more than a week due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, the Chappaqua school district is changing its busing plans due to the current nature of the roads. Some routes will continue as planned, others will have limited service, while others won't run. Centralized locations are serving as replacement routines for morning service but not for the afternoon. Below is a copy of Superintendent Lyn McKay's announcement):

Hello again. This is Lyn McKay.

This message contains more details for transportation to school on Tuesday, November 6.

We will be on a one-hour delay schedule and we urge any drivers to give themselves ample time to get to school.

Some bus routes can run as normal, and some cannot run at all.  Though we had originally planned to do main road pick-ups, today's tour of town made it clear that such a plan could pose safety hazards for our children who would be required to walk past or wait adjacent to downed wires.  So instead, we are going to run just those bus routes that are safe, and then provide a few centralized locations where buses will be available in the morning only.

The specific bus routes that can run are as follows (All buses will run one hour later than normal):

For those without regular bus routes, morning buses will be available at FOUR centralized locations.  Please make sure you stay with your child until you see him/her get on to one of the waiting buses.  The four locations are as follows:

Gedney Park – for Greeley drop children by 7:55 am; for Seven Bridges drop children by 8:15 am; for Roaring Brook drop children by 9:45 am.

Bell School Main Parking Lot – for Greeley drop children by 8:05 am; for Roaring Brook drop children by 9:45 am.

D'Agostino Parking Lot – for Bell School drop children by 8:15 am; for Grafflin drop children by 9:45 am.

The A&P in Millwood – for Greeley drop children by 7:55 am; for Westorchard drop children by 9:45.

Please note that these centralized locations will NOT be for drop-off in the afternoon.  If you dropped your child at a centralized bus location in the morning, you will have to pick him/her up at school in the afternoon.  For elementary and middle schoolers, if you are planning to make alternate arrangements for someone other than a parent to pick up your child from school in the afternoon, please be sure to send a signed note to that effect in the morning.

Town officials, the Police and Con Edison continue to remind us that any wire should be considered live.  Even wires that have been driven over many times since last week's storm can become live in a moment as Con Ed continues its efforts to restore power.  Please speak to your children and remind them of this potential hazard.

We recognize that these are trying times for everyone, and we appreciate your understanding, patience, and cooperation.  I will provide another update tomorrow, and I hope that all of you stay warm and safe. Thank you.
