Bedford 2012 School Voter Turnout Stable

About 1,620 for turnout as of early Tuesday evening, according to district clerk.

Turnout for Bedford Central's school elections appears to be stable, according to reports from officials.

District Clerk Carole LaColla said that, as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, about 1,620 voted throughout the district.

"It's pretty close to last year," LaColla said. However, she noted that it is also a little bit behind from before.

Betty Hunter, the chief inspector for Mount Kisco Elementary School's polling place, described the turnout as "very normal."

Mount Kisco resident Glenn David was among those who voted for the budget.

"I think the cuts are all bad for the kids," he said.

Kathy Fosse, Mount Kisco, voted for the budget but with reservations due to the transportation outsourcing proposed in it, which will eliminate in-house busing positions and rely on an outside contractor.

"It's a strong school district and voting yes is good for home values," said Carol Cunn, a Bedford resident and the mother of a middle and high schooler. "I think it's a reasonable budget and the district kept in mind those for whom things are economically difficult."

Michael and Nina Stanton of North Castle voted in favor of the budget at The Stantons have one child at the middle school and two in grade school.

"We felt it was important to be here," said Nina Stanton. "There are so many changes going on in our country and it's important to be aware of the issues and involved—you can do something with your vote."

Her husband added that he generally supported the school district budgets and hoped to see a "continued prudent use of funds."

Patricia O'Connor, a Mount Kisco resident, voted against the budget because she felt that more money is not needed.
