Bedford School Board Member Lee Goldstein to Resign

Lee Goldstein plans to resign from the Bedford Central School District's Board of Education due to a move out of the district that will make her ineligible to continue serving.

Goldstein, who announced her plans at Wednesday's annual organizational meeting, said that she's moving with her family. The move, which will be to Connecticut, is anticipated to happen in August.

Goldstein, a Pound Ridge resident who was elected to a 3-year term last year, will have served just a little over a year. She described her time on the board as a "compelling" experience and thanked her colleagues.

Board President Susan Wollin, who said that she was not happy when she learned about her fellow member's plans, said that it will be a "loss" to the district.

The school board plans to engage in a search process like one used previously. It entails interviewing candidates who apply for the seat in a public meeting and then voting on an appointment. The last time the process was used was in 2011 to fill a vacancy left by Mark Chernis, who resigned in order to avoid the perception of a conflict of interest between his employer, education publisher Pearson, and the district. The board chose to appoint Andrew Bracco to the seat after he was selected from a group of interviewees. Goldstein was also among those who applied.

The interview process for Goldstein's seat is slated to take place in the early fall.
