Bedford School Board to Interview 3 for Open Seat

The Bedford Central School District's board of education will interview three candidates seeking Lee Goldstein's former seat, the district announced Friday.

The three candidates are Bedford Corners resident Brian Sheerin, Mount Kisco resident Edward Reder and Pound Ridge resident Joe Malichio.

School board President Susan Wollin said in a statement: “Our school district is fortunate to have district residents willing to volunteer on behalf of our school district.”

The school board began asking for applications after Goldstein, who was elected in 2012, decided to leave because of her planned move out of the district, which meant the loss of her eligibility to serve.

The board's interviews will take place on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at Fox Lane Middle School's Little Theatre. The League of Women Voters will moderate and the meeting will broadcast on BCSD-TV, which will be streamline live online and will be televised on Channel 18 and Verizon Fios' Channel 1982.

The district will make copies of the candidates' applications available to the public at the meeting. Public comment on the candidates will be accepted at boe@bcsdny.org until Sept. 20. After receiving input, the district announcement, the school board will then hold an executive session for discussion, which will be followed by an announcement of a pick.

The new board member will serve until May 20, 2014, which is election day for several board seats and the proposed 2014-15 budget.
