Chappaqua Schools To Stay Closed Monday

Condition of roads in town cited.

Schools in the Chappaqua Central School District will be closed Monday due to the poor condition of the roads.

The New Castle Police Department disseminated the information shortly after noon via Twitter, citing electrical wires and downed tree branches as making roads in the town hazardous.

Superintendent David Fleishman said that a problem with having the busses get out due to the roads was a reason. He also said that the announcement was made early due to power outages in the area, to allow for more time to give notice.

The school district's Web site is currently down as of the time of publication. Fleishman said that the storm caused it.

New Castle has been hit particularly hard by Friday's snowstorm. According to Con Edison, as of 4:17 p.m. this afternoon, 3,220 customers in the town are without power.
