Fleisher Enters Chappaqua BOE Race; 3 Running for 2 Seats

Library Board candidate drops out, leaving four left.

The Chappaqua school board race got a new entrant today, with Chappaqua resident Robert Fleisher filing to join, according to District Clerk Theresa Markley.

Fleisher's entry brings the field number back up to three. Last week, Arthur Fried, a member of New Castle Coalition for Educational Excellence (NCCFEE) , explaining to Patch that there are "two excellent candidates remaining in the race," and that he would continue to work for school quality.

The candidates that Fried referred to are Victoria Tipp, a former Chappaqua PTA president, and Karen Visser, who is secretary of the PTA's Roaring Brook Elementary School chapter.

When Fried dropped out, the process for entering the race was reopened and extended to May 10 at 5 p.m. Markley explained that the filing deadling could be extended for up to seven days before the election. Since election day is May 17, the extended date was the maximum allowed. There are two open seats, which can be had by the top two vote getters.

Library Board Race Shrinks (Again)

After just five days running, Seth Lesser has dropped out of the race for the Chappaqua library board, leaving four remaining candidates vying for one open seat. Markley announced his departure Tuesday afternoon.

The candidates left are Gerry Golub, Vincent Travagliato, Ellen Smithberg and Thomas Payne. Lesser and the other four , and entrance deadline that was an extension as a result of Janet Short, the sole and original candidate, dropping out.

Candidates' Forum is Thursday

All of the school board and library board candidates are invited to attend a candidates' forum being put together by the League of Women Voters of New Castle. It will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m., at the Chappaqua Library. Click here for details.
