Fleishman Picked to Run Newton, MA Schools

Boston-area media outlets report that Chappaqua Superintendent was chosen.

Outgoing Chappaqua Central School District Superintendent David Fleishman has been selected for the same position for the school system in Newton, MA, according to The Newton TAB and The Boston Globe. He was chosen as one of three finalists for the job in a meeting held earlier today.

Fleishman is a resident of nearby Brookline. He recently told Patch that he has been commuting from his job in New York to Massachusetts on weekends via Amtrak to visit his family while acting as superintendent. He cited the need to spend more time with them as his reason for his recent decision to step down from the Chappaqua district at the end of this school year.

When contacted by Patch to give his reaction on the selection, Fleishman said that "it's a wonderful opportunity." He also said that he became even more excited about the position as he continued through the interview process.

Fleishman said that he is in Brookline today, and had been following a live blogging of the decision by The Newton TAB when he found out that he was selected. Afterward, Fleishman said that he was called right away by the district.
