Greeley's Bayer to be Next Somers HS Principal

Also, Bayer tells Patch that he applied for Greeley principal during search but withdrew.

Horace Greeley High School Assistant Principal Mark Bayer will be leaving this summer to become principal of Somers High School.

The district confirmed that last night, the Somers school board unanimously approved his hire, effective July 1. Bayer, who has been with Greeley for 13 years, will be replacing Irene Perrella, who is retiring.

"I am thrilled to have been chosen to be the next principal of Somers High School," Bayer told Patch. "Everything I know about the district and from what I’ve learned from parents, staff members, and other community members throughout the process, it seems like it’s such a great fit for me."

Asked what he will miss about Greeley, Bayer said, "I will most definitely miss the students along with the teachers and families I’ve had the pleasure of working with for the past 13 years."

"I am ready to take the next step in my career and look forward to leading a school like Somers High School," Bayer said when asked about why he's making the move.

The fact that Bayer has been interested in moving up in the administrative hierarchy is no secret. Last spring, he was for Pleasantville High School's vacant principal position.

Bayer also disclosed that he applied for the principal's job at Greeley earlier this school year but withdrew his application. When asked why, Bayer explained that it was a "personal choice."

The Chappaqua school board conducted the search after long-time principal Andrew Selesnick was promoted to assistant superintendent for human resources. As a successor, the board , who is currently principal of New York City's Millennium High School. Selesnick and Rhodes will assume their new jobs on July 1.

“I think he’s a fantastic educator and I think they’re lucky to have him," Chappaqua school board President Alyson Kiesel said about Bayer's move.
