Gregg Bresner Will Not Seek 2nd Term on Chappaqua School Board

With his decision, both seats up for election this year are open.

Chappaqua school board Vice President Gregg Bresner has announced that he will not run for re-election, making his decision known in an email.

Bresner, first elected in 2008 when he unseated then-board member Robert Gursha, is known for making an emphasis of fiscal issues that have impacted the district, particularly its rising state-mandated pension contributions for teachers and other employees.

In his personal capacity, Bresner has also been critical of the Chappaqua Crossing proposal for the former Reader's Digest site due to concern about the property tax impact from more students living the proposed housing units coming into the district. In a July letter to the editor for New Castle NOW, he called on developer Summit/Greenfield to either scale back the housing proposal and have the units - proposed as condos and townhouses - to be taxed the same way as single-family homes, or for the developer to establish an escrow account to save money that could be use to compensate for tax increases
