Middle Schoolers Move Up From Seven Bridges

Local middle schoolers preparing this week for high school next fall.

Editor's Note: Yesterday Seven Bridges Middle School held its Moving Up day. It was one of three middle school graduations being held this week. Seven Bridges, along with Robert E. Bell Middle School, scheduled their Moving Up days for yesterday, while Fox Lane Middle School has one today.

Proud parents gathered, with tissues at the ready, to mark the end of their child's time at Seven Bridges Middle School. It was a time of mixed emotions; joy regarding the beginning of high school and sadness in leaving the cocoon of middle school.

At Seven Bridges, the students marched into the auditorium accompanied by thunderous applause and the song To Sir With Love.

Principal Martha Zornow gave the welcoming remarks. She wished the children well and quoted from Daniel Pink's book A Whole New Mind. "I'm always recommending reading," she said.

Students reminisced about their middle school experience. Trips to Bash Bish Falls and Lake Compounce were at the top of their list of highlights. Julia Desmaris spoke about wrapping lockers and joining the GO (student government organization). Noah Weissman exhorted his classmates to look toward high school by invoking Caesar. He urged them to "live by his (Caesar's) quote by changing its tense" as they had learned to do in foreign language classes. "I will come, I will see, I will conquer," he said.

A multimedia presentation, compiled by students, showed glimpses of middle school life. The 8th grade chorus, concert band, orchestra, and guitarists joined together for a rendition of the classic song Celebration.
