Roaring Brook Principal Search to Start (Mostly) Over

Loss of two finalists prompts reopening of search, according to superintendent. Applicants this time will be selected on a rolling basis.

The decisions of two finalists in the Roaring Brook Elementary School principal search has prompted the district to extend it and find more candidates.

Chappaqua schools Superintendent Lyn McKay, who told Patch Thursday about the update, said that they dropped out for personal reasons. In her last update, at the Jan. 31 school board meeting, McKay said that there were three finalists.

The extended search will share some similarities with the initial one, which was started in November. Again, the district will place job ads in The New York Times and Education Week, which will run until April 11. The same interview committee of community members will be involved in looking at candidates.

Unlike the last go around, the search will be done on a rolling basis, McKay explained. This means that the district could decide to select finalists before the April 11 ad closing date, making the process an expedited one.

The news comes as McKay has picked a suggestion a new principal for Horace Greeley High School. Robert Rhodes, currently principal of Millennium High School in lower Manhattan, awaits approval from the school board at its Feb. 28 meeting, which he will make an appearance at.
