School Board Approves Athletic Director Transition

Chappaqua's decade-long athletic director, Steve Young is leaving. His predecessor, Peter Kuczma, will fill in.

Long-time residents in Chappaqua will see a familiar face this coming fall.

At its meeting Wednesday, Chappaqua's school board approved having Peter Kuczma, a former athletic director, return to the job on an interim basis, effective Aug. 13 and until June 30, 2013.

Kuczma, who left in 2002, is replacing Steve Young, who was his successor. His resignation, effective Friday, Aug. 10, is because he will take over in the New Rochelle school district as director of physical education, health and athletics. The board also approved his resignation.

At the board meeting, Superintendent Lyn McKay congratulated Young on his new job. She also see having Kuczma, as a good fit.

“And so we’re delighted to have Pete," she said.

Kuczma was brought back to the fold in June, when the board appointed him to a new position called supervisor of athletics. He was tasked with handling some of Young's duties. While Kuczma will resign from that job, the district
