Seniors Celebrate At Horace Greeley Graduation

Today might be the first day of summer, but yesterday was filled with reminders of changes. With warm weather shining down, family and friends gathered under a massive outdoor tent at Horace Greeley High School to celebrate the graduation of the 2010 Senior Class.

The ceremony featured nine speakers including administrators and students. Most of these speeches featured humor including Ezra Toback, Co-Salutatorian, who instead provided the audience with a Top 10 list of reasons to go to Horace Greeley High School. The crowd laughed throughout the list which included everything from the library and the senior musical to the lunch ladies and urinal dividers.

Although the topics presented were quite eclectic, most of the students reflected on what they had gained from their experience at Horace Greeley, and what they plan to take with them.

"I'm beginning to understand that to truly experience all that life has to offer there needs to be a state of equilibrium in which academics are balanced with social and other extracurricular activities," said Ethan Portnoy, Co-Salutatorian. "No one aspect can dominate the other, rather it is the interconnections of them all that helps create the ultimate experience."

The evening was also filled with numerous sentimental moments, especially when Michele Glenn, Class of 2010 Principal, reflected on how much she learned from the students.

"I am feeling a mixture of sadness and joy that I will not be seeing your children's faces in September," she said in her speech. "The sadness is selfish as I will miss seeing you and your children next year."
