Westmoreland Sanctuary - that's good to know - thank you for offering an orientation for folks - sounds great! Please feel free to let your program participants know that they can also visit the Croton Point Nature Center (they have a “Feeder Watch” program and lots of birds!) from 10am - Noon on Saturday, Sunday and Monday to count birds at their feeders - Bonnie from the Saw Mill River Audubon will be available there to answer questions! Directions to the Nature Center are on our "Instructions Flier" - the link is above. Hope things go well this weekend!

Woke up to a bird singing outside my window, which made me smile. Won't be long til spring now!
Victoria Alzapiedi February 18, 2013 at 05:18 pm
That's great, Margaret! Yes, the birds definitely sing more on these nice sunny days! You may want to consider putting up a feeder near your window (not too close - as you don't want the birds to accidentally fly into the window!) This is a great way to ensure you will hear the melodic tones of songbirds on a regular basis - and they will be especially grateful for the extra food during the winter!

Thanks for posting this - sounds cool. What kind of projects will kids do? Also, can an incoming 6thRead More grader participate?
It's About Time June 6, 2013 at 01:45 pm
Hi Lisa! Thanks for your questions. In this unit (Vehicles In Motion) the kids will build CoasterRead More Cars and test different aspects of the motion of their vehicles such as: distance traveled, acceleration, straightness, and friction. This unit emphasizes student collaboration in order to develop a set of performance test procedures for measuring Coaster Car performance. An incoming sixth grader can definitely join! Feel free to call the number above - my co-worker will be happy to help you.
