Youth Lacrosse Group Holds Benefit Tournament for Fox Lane Player

Youth lacrosse tournament raises funds for paralyzed former Fox Lane High School player.

"I didn't know what to expect but this is pretty cool" said Tony Ciccone, as he watched a youth lacrosse game at Fox Lane High School. Ciccone, who was was paralyzed while playing for Fox Lane 10 years ago, made a return Sunday for the event in his honor.

"I didn't know how it would feel, but I'm good—there's nothing negative," he said, as he watched the youth lacrosse tournament called LAXIN4TONY, which was raising funds for Tony and his family, who recently returned to the area after having lived in New Jersey for years.

Hosted by the Fox Lane Youth Lacrosse 7th and 8th grade travel team, the tournament included five other teams from Long Island and Connecticut, and was co-organized by FLYL coach Don Kayser and Sheila Smith.

"It's exciting for us and for Tony," said Kayser from the sideline as he coached his team during one of their games against Ridgefield. "It's incredible the amount of support we got from everyone. The referees, the student volunteers, emergency services—they all volunteered their time so every penny raised goes to Tony and his family."

As Ciccone watched from the bleachers, he remarked about the field, which was renovated after his time at the high school. "It looks fantastic and it's great to watch them all play."

Ciccone added that he felt good when the Fox Lane team all came to greet him and shake his hand. "That was pretty cool for me, too."
