Meteorologist Joe Rao talks about the distance between the moon and mars.
Late Thursday night, skywatchers who cast a glance toward the waning gibbous moon in the eastern sky will also notice the presence of a very bright, yellow-orange "star" shining with a steady glow hovering a bit above and to the moon's right. That's no star, though. It's the planet Mars. The apparent distance between the moon and Mars will be rather large, amounting to about 9 degrees. That's roughly equal to the width of your fist held at arm's length. The sky map of Mars and the moon for this story shows how they will appear Thursday night to skywatchers with clear skies. "V is for Vagina" comes out on Valentine's Day.
Alyssa Dweck feels that female anatomy remains a subject that doesn't get talked about easily. She says there is "still a little bit of demystifying that needs to be done." Dweck hopes to bring attention to the taboo with her new co-authored book, V is for Vagina: You’re A to Z Guide to Periods, Piercings, Pleasures and So Much More. The book explores a myriad of questions that women may be uncomfortable to ask, ranging from sexually transmitted diseases, menopause and tattoos. "It has a very light-hearted feel to it as well," Dweck said. Discussing the cultural sensibilities, Dweck described how women have come into her office asking with concerns. "Women are curious. They want to know if things are ok," she said. Dweck also feels that …
Bedford and Mount Kisco seek to end auto deliveries in the middle of heavily traveled Route 117.
Bedford’s planners added their voice Tuesday to a growing chorus of official criticism of new-car delivery practices on busy North Bedford Road. Car-carrying trailers, these officials charge, routinely park in the center left-turn lane to offload new autos rather than performing that operation on dealership property. Parking in the center lane slows traffic in the remaining two lanes of the road, also known as Route 117, as it passes through heavily traveled commercial strips of both Bedford and Mount Kisco. Officials in Mount Kisco have condemned what the village building inspector called a “community traffic nuisance” that could jeopardize at least one dealer’s continued operation. In Bedford, where two dealerships went before the …

Reilly was selected as local woman for a district-wide project from state Sen. Greg Ball.
Speaking to congratulate his precedessor on becoming a "woman of distinction," Mayor Michael Cindrich noted that Patricia Reilly's career and volunteerism is more extensive than the biography submitted for the honor. “It doesn’t tell the whole story," he said at Monday's Mount Kisco Village Board of Trustees meeting. “What Pat did in each and every one of these organizations was much more than could be expected of any person, and that’s what makes this community a great community," he said. At the meeting, officials from state Sen. Greg Ball's office came to honor Reilly, who served as mayor from 1999-03 and as a village trustee for five years prior to that. New research finds that this Valentine's Day Americans, specifically men, are digging deeper into their pockets than ever before.
They say you can’t buy love, but research shows consumers are spending more than ever this Valentine’s season. According to Mother Nature Network, research from the National Retail Federation (NRF) estimates the total spending will reach $17.6 billion, with the average person spending more than $126, up nearly 10 percent from last year and the most ever in the survey's 10-year history. Not everyone will dig as deeply into their wallets, however. The average male is expected to spend $168.74 — nearly twice as much as women — on clothing, jewelry and greeting cards, among other things. Data shows consumers spend the most on their better halves, an average of $74. They’ll also spend an average of more than $25 on their children, parents or …
