New Castle Police Arrest 3, Allege Attempted Burglary

Men from Yorktown, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow also charged with possession of stolen property.

Three men from neighboring communities were arrested Feb. 3 by New Castle police after allegedly being discovered near a Chappaqua property. Police received a suspicious person report and reported that a black Audi vehicle fled the scene. The vehicle was stopped on Route 133, police announced, and three were discovered inside. Police also said that the men possessed stolen GPS devices and credit cards. The men arrested are: 25-year-old Yorktown resident Christopher Demauro, who was the driver, 19-year-old Sleepy Hollow resident Frederick Polanco, and 25-year-old Tarrytown resident James Donovan.  Each were charged with attempted burglary, a felony, along with counts of criminal possession of stolen property, police said. NYSP: DWI Arrest, 23 Traffic Tickets on Super Bowl Sunday

The New York State Police reported handing out 23 traffic tickets and performing one Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated arrest on Super Bowl Sunday. During a "roving DWI saturation detail" in Westchester County, Julian Pena of Yonkers was stopped for speeding and subsequently arrested on the Sprain Brook Parkway. Police report the 28-year-old was processed at NYSP's Hawthorne department, where a breath test revealed his blood alcohol content (BAC) measured in at .20 percent. He is due back in Greenburgh Court on February 13. Also during the detail, state police reported issuing 23 traffic tickets:

Hundreds of Firefighters Gather For Annual Lt. Andy Fredericks Memorial Event

More than 400 firefighters from the region gathered at the Tarrytown Marriott Hotel on Saturday for the 11th Annual Lt. Andy Fredericks Memorial Seminar and Exhibit. Included in the crowd was 19-year-old Suffern firefighter Andrew Fredericks, who was 9 years old when his father was killed. "I spent a day at another FDNY house when I was 14. I was with Lt. Brian Curid who showed me around and that's what made me want to become a firefighter," Fredericks said.   The seminar included two presentations by FDNY officers meant to educate those in the crowd on firefighting tactics and safety. Homeless Ossining Man Sues Eminem Stephen Lee Pieck, a homeless Ossining man, is suing hip-hop artist Eminem for $9 million, reports AllHipHop.com. Pieck claims he was in White Plain's Legal Seafood restaurant with pop star Christina Aguilera and her husband Sep. 9, 2010 when Aguilera put him on the phone with Eminem. Mountain Lion Reportedly Spotted Near Pleasantville

Reports centered around northern part of Mount Pleasant, which the chief said is within the Chappaqua school district.

A mountain lion may be roaming near Pleasantville. Louis Alagno, Mount Pleasant's police chief, confirmed the department received calls "just before 5 p.m." today reporting, "a large cat—possibly a mountain lion" roaming the streets of a neighborhood in the vicinity of Heritage Drive, in northern Mount Pleasant. "Patrol officers have checked that area with negative results," Alagno reported. "They have not observed anything." The first caller reported seeing a large cat in the street near 60 Heritage Dr., while a second caller said an animal that appeared to be a mountain lion was spotted climbing a tree. 3 in Chappaqua Report Fake Relative Scams

New Castle police report that elderly residents are getting calls from people pretending to be relatives asking for money.

New Castle police are seeing a rash of identity theft reports, with senior citizens reporting that they were being targeted by people claiming their relatives are in trouble. According to Det. Sgt. James Wilson, three reports have been made since Friday by three elderly Chappaqua men. One made, 90, reported being asked for $4,500, an 85 year old for $3,500 and an 80 year old for $2,500. All three calls involved supposed members of their families being in trouble or injured, Wilson explained, and asked for money to be wired overseas via Western Union. "It's a very common scam," Wilson said. Police sent out an online alert about the situation on Monday afternoon to warn the public and noted that the senior citizens were tricked into giving …

Victims of Fatal North Castle Crashes Identified

A White Plains man and Somers woman died in separate crashes Jan. 28 in North Castle.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims of two separate crashes in North Castle on Jan. 28, according to LoHud.com. Kimberly Figa, 23, of 39 Deans Bridge Rd. in Somers, died at Northern Westchester Hospital Center in Mount Kisco after driving her 2011 Mercedes Benz off Hickory Pass near Cedar Hill Road at approximately 9:15 a.m. An earlier police report identified the woman as 24.  About an hour later, Elbert Jourdy, 61, of 468 No. Broadway in White Plains, was driving his Mercury Marquis when he and a Ford pickup driven by a Katonah man collided near the entrance of the Westchester County Airport on Route 120. White Plains Man, Somers Woman Victims of Fatal Car Crashes in North Castle

North Castle Police are investigating the accidents; Katonah man also involved.

Two fatal car crashes occurred within an hour of one another in North Castle on Saturday morning. At approximately 9:18 a.m. on Jan. 28, a 24-year-old Somers woman fatally crashed a 2011 Mercedes Benz near 25 Hickory Pass in the Banksville part of North Castle, according to a police report. The Armonk and Banksville Fire Departments, and Westchester EMS were also on scene. The North Castle Police Department responded to a second incident at approximately 10:22 a.m. at the intersection of NY Route 120 and Airport Road in the Armonk section of town involving two vehicles. Brothers Allegedly Steal Storm Drain Grates and Scrap Metal Three Harrison brothers face misdemeanor charges for allegedly stealing storm drain grates and scrap metal over the last two months. Area scrap metal yards value the grates at approximately $50. Four grates were stolen before police were given a lead by the Journal News facilities manager, who reported that two men stole scrap metal from a dumpster on his property. Cat House The SPCA of Westchester rescued 16 neglected cats from a private Yorktown residence on an anonymous tip. The homeowners were reported to be in the hospital and the cats were allegedly left without care. The home was deemed unfit for occupation by animals or people. Mt. Kisco Man Charged With Alleged Knifepoint Robbery in Bedford

A Mount Kisco man accused of robbing a man at knifepoint was arrested by Bedford police at a local residence early Tuesday morning. Michael Cucolo, 24, was charged with first-degree robbery, a B felony, and third-degree assault, an A misdemeanor, after police found him with a knife and the belongings of the victim who reported the incident, according to Lt. Jeffrey Dickan.  The victim, 20, of Stamford, CT, told police he had gone to the Mobil Gas station at 193 Pound Ridge Road to meet a friend when an unknown male "jumped him," striking him in the face several times with a knife, just after midnight.
