Work to Start on Mt. Kisco Diner's Overhaul

The first phase of the planned overhaul of the Mt. Kisco Coach Diner is starting, with the demolition of the former Paul's Power building to the restaurant's south planned by next week.

Harry Georgiou, whose family owns the diner, confirmed the plans and explained that total work on the site will be several days.

Already, fencing and construction machinery have been brought to the site. Once the building is demolished, the next phase will be to work on an expansion of the building's size, Georgiou said. He did not yet have a timetable for the addition.

The construction is coming more than six months after the project received approval from the Mount Kisco Planning Board, the last major governing body to authorize the overhaul. In 2010, the village board of trustees approved changing zoning so that the Paul's Power site, which will be merged with the diner's current parcel, so that both sites have the same type of zone. Approvals were also granted last fall by the zoning board of appeals and the architectural review board.

The diner will get additional space of about 1,250 square feet and 13 new spaces for parking. The new look for the diner, located at, 252 E. Main St., will include columns, a porch and a stone and stucco facade.
