Millwood to Get 'Tails to Trails' and Possibly More

Chamber of Commerce to support first downtown Millwood event, teaming up with animal hospital, Pets Alive and Drug Mart. Greenstein, task force, discuss ideas for more events.

Downtown Millwood is getting a new event, which will be for both people and pets.

Slated for May, the first-annual Tails to Trails, a pet fair that will be held in the parking lot of main sponsor Millwood Animal Hospital (off of Route 100) according to Rob Greenstein, a founding official with the Chappaqua-Millwood Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is also one of the event's supporters.

Pets Alive, an animal sanctuary that has teamed up for events with local businesses such as Churchills of Mount Kisco and Desires by Mikolay in Chappaqua, will have a tent at the site and pets for adoption, along with T-shirts. Drug Mart is also serving as a backer.

The nearby North County Trailway will also be put to use as part of the event, Greenstein explained. In fact, the event's name represents a link between the two: "tails" is for the pet fair, "to" symbolizes Millwood merchants in between, and "trails" represents the trailway.

The event, which will be held on May 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is the first downtown Millwood event that the chamber is backing. Founded nearly a year ago, the chamber has supported major events in downtown Chappaqua, such as a fall festival last October and "Taste of Chappaqua" last summer, the later of which coincided with an annual sidewalk sale.

The chamber's presence in the Millwood area was a point of interest at Thursday's Millwood Task Force meeting, with Greenstein doing a talk. Both sides expressed interest in coordinating in the future, trading ideas for more events.

Michael Stern, who co-chairs the task force, suggested coordination between the two, saying they have “some things in common as far as goals for Millwood, specific to Millwood.”

“The more help that we can get the better," Greenstein replied.

Event ideas discussed included summer movie nights at Millwood Park, a music concert in addition to the four planned for Chappaqua this summer, and a run such as a 10k or one for kids. In the case of a movie night, the idea drew coincidental interest before the meeting from Greenstein and task force member Leslye Smith.
