Mom Talk: What Are You Doing for the Winter Break?

There are many things you can do with your kids when they have school off in February. Here are some suggestions.

Next week is Winter Break here is our school district and I, for one, am escaping!

My family is going to the Seaport Resort in Boston. It’s a very family friendly resort that’s central to most sightseeing activities, and I'm looking forward to a change of scenery and some uninterrupted time with my fam! Also, Seaport Boston has invited me to do a press trip, to blog about it when I am there.

However, there are many types of getaways that you can plan for the week.

Will your kids be in mini camp? I have been bombarded with information about mini camps during winter break. Families where both parents work really have a tough time adjusting, or rather, indulging in these school breaks. Mini camps end up being a great solution to a kid's need for activity and a parent's need for child care while they are at work. If your kids are attending, which ones do you recommend?

How about day trips? My favorite places to visit are either nearby in Cold Spring or Hudson, NY, or maybe a trip over to Philly.

Another good place is Montreal, where we once headed for a weekend trip. It’s about five hours north and the drive is gorgeous! The place is so European and the shops and street markets are quaint. The best part was that it was very dog friendly, which was great for our giant dog.

However, with gas prices going up again, many people are opting for staying in town. A stay-cation could be a closer alternative. Stay-cations are when you stay at home and take short trips to local attractions, doing things near by that you wouldn’t normally do during school weeks. We have had many stay-cations in the past and it’s been such fun! There is so much to do in Westchester County and nearby, so day trips and evening indulgences are easy to plan. One of the things we do during a stay-cation is have slumber parties and make extravagant meals. My husband is an amazing cook and loves to be in the kitchen cooking and I love to eat so it’s a win win!

So what are your plans for the Winter Break? What type of activities have you planned for your little ones?
