Way beyond lanyard! What's hot at summer camp!?

With so many options to choose from, it’s hard to decide where to send your children to camp in the summer. While the classic camp activities like making s’mores and friendship bracelets will always be fun, camps are adding more activities to make sure the summer is special and have added activities that impart life skills and education all while your children are having a blast! Whether your kid wants to learn how to become a fashion design star, a rocket scientist, or a basketball legend, there is a camp out there for them! Here’s what some of our favorite day camps in the area are doing to make sure your kids have the best summer ever!

FashionCamp NYC : Your tween/teen can learn how to run a mall...not just visit one! FashionCamp NYC is an intensive five-day hands-on camp experience, taught by the experts, designers and retailers your teen reads about in their favorite magazines and blogs, and aspire to work with one day. FashionCampNYC explores the “business” of fashion, teaching teens — ages 12 to 18 — how to turn their passion into a lucrative profession. Their educators include fashion executives, designers, product developers, stylists, bloggers, and editors, touching on every aspect of this creative and colorful industry. So far this summer they have had great speakers from Coach, Neiman's, Damsels in Design, and 13-year old fashion wunderkind Isabella Rose Taylor (who was just featured in Fast Company and on The Today Show after selling her line into Nordstrom.) Not only have they had incredible speakers, but the girls get to be a part of the action in Project Runway-esque fashion shows! If your teen is all about shoes (who isn’t!?) then the Sam Edelman showroom tour would be right up her alley! FashionCampers also get to go to the new exhibit at the Met and take the WindowsWear walking tour of NYC which was recently listed in Lucky mag blog as a must-see in NYC! Spots are still open for the last session...All that’s missing is your fashionista!

Camp Breezemont: Located on an expansive 15-acre property, Breezemont’s large green fields, towering trees, and beautiful lake, make it a day camp with all the features of an overnight camp. Their program includes a variety of sports, arts, and aquatics activities, specifically designed to be age-appropriate for each group of campers.Camp Breezemont has had a total revamp for this summer! Along with classic camp activities like baseball and fishing, Breezemont has built an aerial playground from recycled trees (taken from its property) for the kids to explore! With 6 pools and a lake, your kid will keep cool on even the hottest days. Rain or shine Breezemont makes sure your kids are having a great time. Not only can your kid have a blast at Breezemont, you will know that they will be healthy too! All meals are nutritious and a salad bar is always filled with healthy options in the dining hall! Kids with gluten allergies don’t have to feel like the odd child out. Gluten-free versions of all meals are being served as well. They even give all campers gluten-free cake when the birthday boy or girl has an allergy!  Breezemont campers spend their summers learning new skills, making friends, and having lots of fun, in a safe and nurturing environment.

Destination Science: Destination Science is all about having fun while learning. STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning is more important than ever before, it has become a national movement. At Destination Science, they say “Science is a Way of Thinking!” When we know how to “do” science, we know how to be creative, critical, and organized thinkers and problem solvers. From astronauts in space to robots the different Destination Science programs are all entertaining and educational! Destination Science is also introduced a World Cup themed activity this summer. The camp is back in Westchester and Long Island AND launched in Rockland County and Northern New Jersey this year.
