Saturday, June 4th, from 11 am to 4 pm, marks the 74th annual Strawberry Festival at Chappaqua’s Church of St. Mary the Virgin, making it the longest continuously-running event of its kind in Westchester County. Each year this popular festival attracts people from several area towns for a day of fun, food, games, craft vendors, and community spirit—rain or shine.

The Strawberry Festival provides fun for the entire family. Perennial favorites for the younger set include face-painting, air castle, lollipop tree, and “pickpocket lady,” plus an assortment of games and prizes. Adults and teens can shop the many craft vendors who offer unique jewelry, leather goods, hats, decorative glass, hand-made children’s clothes and games, and more. Inside, a welcome refuge on a hot day, you can check out Attic Treasures, where you might find silver, brass, china, or vintage jewelry that strikes your fancy.

Food offerings include classic summer treats: freshly-grilled chicken, hamburgers, and hotdogs, cotton candy, popcorn, and cold drinks. An indoor Café offers a selection of heart-healthy items, tabouleh or tuna pita pockets, strawberry smoothies, and always-popular chocolate-dipped strawberries. Top that off with various home-baked items for sale which you can bring home, plus an assortment of strawberry-themed goodies. And don’t forget St. Mary’s famous strawberry shortcake! Fresh berries served on top of shortcake generously provided by Susan Lawrence of Chappaqua. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and whipped cream complete this delectable treat.

Live music and entertainment also enliven the scene. St. Mary’s own bluegrass Stump Jumpers will appear outdoors, along with other local performers. Inside, musicians will play relaxing chamber music in the Café.

Money earned at the Festival supports St. Mary’s, a mission-oriented church whose Outreach Program helps fund several local organizations that benefit people in need. These include the Interfaith Emergency Food Pantry, A-HOME, The Children’s Center at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, Hope’s Door (formerly Northern Westchester Shelter), Open Door Family Medical Centers, and Neighbors Link in Mt. Kisco, among others.
