Recap from the Mount Kisco Village Board October 21st, 2013 Meeting

I promised I would give this a whirl and see if this is useful.  I will reiterate here the information presented by me at the Village Board meetings that may be of interest to many of you.  So please let me know.
I would also love to hear from you with things that may be useful or helpful for members of our community.  People have been kind enough to share their resources, their favorite volunteer activitees and other information with me.  I will be happy to pass it along.
So here goes my very first post!
The first thing we spoke about was that absentee ballot applications for the November 5th election must be postmarked no later than October 29th.
There was a reminder that if your home is your primary residence in NY and you earn less than $500,00.00 you must re-register on or before December 31st or you will no longer receive the Basic STAR tax exemption for 2014 and thereafter:  www.tax.ny.gov or call (518) 457-2036.  Senior or Enhanced STAR tax exemptions are not effected.
The Westchester Library Ststem is looking for tutors for adult learners.  You need to have either a high school or college degree.  Please call Lisa Kahn at (914) 231-3264.  Her e-mail is lkahn@wlsmail.org.
The Westchester Library System is looking for volunteers to serve as counselors for their Senior Benefits Information Centers that help adults 60+ achieve a better understanding of Medicare health plans, prescription drug coverage and other benefits available to seniors.  Volunteers receive monthly training.  The services are offered in Mount Kisco, Greenburg, Shrub Oak, Port Chester and several other communitees.  Please contact Beth Casso at bcasso@medicarerights,org or leave a message at (914) 231-3260.
A wonderful personally tailored smoking cessation program is available at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City.  They can be reached at 212-610-0507.
I have also been advised that Northern Westchester Hospital also has an excellent program.  I would welcome more information on their program.
The drug give-back program where you can dispose of your unused or expired medicines for safe disposal will take place this Saturday, October 26th at the Mount Kisco Police station at 40 Green Street at the corner of Green Street and Moger Avenue from 10:00AM-2:00PM.
The Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce is planning their Village Tree Lighting Ceremony followed by cookies and cocoa with Santa at the American Legion on Friday, December 6th.
How was that for my first post?  I will try to post information after every Village Board meeting. Let me know what you think.  Thank you for stopping by.
