Richard Scott To Open Doors To Cancer Patients

Event is held quarterly.

Richard Scott Salon and Day Spa in Mount Kisco will open its doors this evening to a group of cancer patients and offer their services for free.

The event is done quarterly and a group of women are chosen by the Support Connection, a support group for those with breast or ovarian cancer, according to Carmela Carfagno, a spa manager.

There will be 15 women stopping by and they are either currently dealing with cancer or in remission, Carfagno said.

The spa staff donate their time, Carfagno said. Services that will be offered include facials from an esthetician, messages, and make up. Attendees can choose up to two of the services being offered.

Carfagno describes the event as a night when they can forget they have cancer. She also wants the night to be enjoyable.

"I just want them to just enjoy it," she says.

She said that people who have come in - pointing to patients who lost their hair to chemotherapy treatment as an example - have felt comfortable there.

"They just feel comfortable just being themselves," Carfagno said.

The event will run today from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The spa's next cancer-related event will be to get involved in an October walkathon at FDR Park in Yorktown, Carfagno said.
