Memorial Day 2013: Parades in New Castle, Mt. Kisco & Near By

If you're looking to spend the holiday weekend curbside, decked out in red, white and blue and saluting local veterans, read on. Patch has information on Memorial Day parades in New Castle, Mount Kisco and beyond.

New Castle's Memorial Day Parade

Where: Downtown Chappaqua, including Routes 117 and 120, South Greeley Avenue and the Chappaqua train station area.

When: Monday, May 27, at 10:30 a.m. for the ceremony and 11 a.m. for the parade

Description: Before the parade there will be a ceremony at Victory Corners Monument, which is at the intersection of Routes 117 and 120 in Chappaqua. The parade will start near by on Ridgewood Terrace, head north on 117, down the hill at King Street (Route 120), going south on South Greeley Avenue, before turning left to the plaza in front of the Chappaqua train station, where it will stop. Local civic groups, veterans and first responders will march in the parade.

Mount Kisco's Memorial Day Parade

Where: Downtown Mount Kisco, from Smith Avenue, to Route 117 to village hall.

When: May 30, 7 p.m.

Description: The parade will start near the village's two cemeteries off of Lexington Avenue. It will proceed along Smith Avenue, turn left to Route 117 and then stop around village hall. A memorial ceremony will then be held by the local American Legion chapter. If there is rain, then there will be an event, at 7 p.m., in the American Legion's building.

Bedford Hills Memorial Day Parade

Where: The parade route is along Babbitt Road to Church Street, then Main Street to the Bedford Hills Fire Department.

When: Monday, May 27, 9 a.m.

Description: The Bedford Hills Fire Department and Bedford Hills Lions Club co sponsor the parade. Following the parade, ceremonies are held at the Bedford Hills Community House WW I memorial followed by a ceremony at the end of the parade at the WW II, Korean and Vietnam war memorials at the intersection of Bedford Road and Main Street.

Bedford Village Memorial Day and Bike Parade

Where: Bedford Village Green; Starts at the Corner of Seminary Road and Pound Ridge Road right onto Pound Ridge Road (Route 172) to the Village Green. 

When: Monday, May 27. Registration for bike parade at 9:30 a.m., parade begins at 11:30 a.m.

Description:  The Bedford Village Lions Club in partnership with the Bedford Village Fire Department is once again sponsoring the annual Memorial Day Parade Bike Decorating Contest.  Children from ages 1-12 are invited to let their creative and patriotic spirits fly while they  decorate their two-three-and-four wheelers and ride in the parade from Seminary Road to the Village Green. Prizes will be awarded on the Green at the conclusion of the Memorial Day ceremonies.

Katonah Memorial Day Parade

Where: The parade starts at the Katonah Fire House and continues to the James F. Lawrence Circle at The Parkway.

When: 
Monday, May 27, 10 a.m. 

Description: The parade is sponsored by the Katonah American Legion Post 1275 and the Katonah Fire Department will be followed by a ceremony at Lawrence Circle. All families are welcome to the firehouse after where ice cream will be provided for kids; following that , the Katonah American Legion at 136 Jay Street is hosting a barbecue with hot dogs and hamburgers.

South Salem Memorial Day Races, Parade and Fair

When: Monday, May 27th, race registration opens at 7 a.m. on Lewisboro Library lawn. The fair is from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and the parade starts at 12:15 p.m. at Lakeshore Drive on Lake Truesdale.

Where: Hamlet of South Salem

Description: The festivities include a parade, church fair, races including a 10K, 5K, Health Walk, Mile Fun Run and Pee Wee Races. For the second year in a row, 10% of all registration fees will benefit the Forever Molly & Gregory Fund which
was established in 2012 in partnership with the Katonah Lewisboro Foundation in memory of Amy, Molly and Gregory Friedlander. The fair is at the South Salem Presbyterian Church on Spring Street in South Salem.

White Plains Memorial Day Parade

Where: The parade begins at the White Plains Public Library on Martine Avenue.

When: Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.

Description: The procession will wind down Mamaroneck Avenue and Main Street, passing by City Hall, and then turn onto North Broadway. It will end with a ceremony at White Plains Rural Cemetery. For more info, call (914) 422-1200.

Scarsdale Memorial Day Parade

Where: Boniface Circle

When: Monday, May 27 at 9:15 a.m.

Description: Arranged by local veterans, the parade will start with the placing of the wreaths, and wind its way to Chase Park.

Port Chester Memorial Day Parade

Where: Westchester Avenue, Port Chester

When: Monday, May 27 at 12 p.m.

Description: The Port Chester, Rye Brook, Rye Town Memorial Day parade will take place on Monday, May 27 at 12 p.m. on Westchester Avenue. Check out this video on YouTube from last year's parade.

New Rochelle Memorial Day Celebration

Where
: Glen Island Park, New Rochelle

When: Saturday, May 25, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Description: Beginning at 1 p.m. there will be a Memorial Day service, after which there is an almost fully day of food, entertainment and fun, including activities for the children. The headlining band will be Blood, Sweat and Tears, who will perform beginning at 6 p.m.

Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow Memorial Day Parade

Where: The parade begins on Main Street on Tarrytown and continues to Sleepy Hollow, looping back to Patriot's Park at the border between the villages for a concluding ceremony.

When: Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m.

Description: The procession will begin on Main Street then take a left on North Broadway all the way to Beekman Avenue in Sleepy Hollow. Here folks can check out the newly restored WWI veteran memorial plaques at Morse School. Then the route will loop back by taking a left onto North Washington Street, finally entering Patriots Park. The ceremony, with band music, in the park usually begins about 10 a.m.

Where: Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson and Irvington

When: Monday, May 27 - different times and locations

Rye Memorial Day Celebration

Where: Village Green, Rye

When: Monday, May 27, 10 a.m.

Description: The Rye Post 128 of the American Legion will have a Memorial Day Observance on the Rye Village Green on Monday at 10 a.m. All are invited and welcome to attend.

Yorktown Memorial Day Parade

Where: Yorktown Town 

When: Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m.

Description: The annual parade will follow, kicking off at about 11:15. The officers of American Legion Post 1009 ask that members who are marching be there by 10:45 to form up. It ends at DeVito Veteran's Memorial Gazebo on Veterans Road.

Somers Memorial Day Parade

Where: Hosted by Somers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8213  

When: Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.

Description: A remembrance ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial in Ivandell Cemetery. Anyone wishing to march is asked to be at the Somers Middle School by 9:30 a.m. The Somers Historical Society Museum will be open to the public following the ceremonies at Ivandell Cemetery until 1 p.m., located on the 3rd floor of the Elephant Hotel.
