'Tree of Life' Lights up Community

Hospice Care event honors those who have passed away recently and were taken care of by the center.

It has been a tough year for Katonah's Schneidman family, who lost their mother and wife, Mary to cancer in May. On Wednesday night, however, an opportunity was given to honor her memory.

"She made many friends and touched many lives," said her husband, Jared Schneidman.

Schneidman was one of several deceased patients remembered by Hospice Care of Westchester & Putnam at its 15th annual Tree of Life celebration, which included a Christmas tree lighting at Mount Kisco's Holiday Inn. The tree included dove-shaped cut-outs of folks honored.

The night was a community rallying point for residents in the area, including Mount Kisco and New Castle. Among the highlights of the event were holiday tunes performances by student choirs from Fox Lane and Horace Greeley high schools. Mount Kisco's Ancient Order of Hibernians chapter also presented the hospice with a check for more than $70,000.
