The Preppy Turtle Gets New Owner

The Preppy Turtle has a new owner, according to a statement posted on its Facebook site.

Ann Hardy, who has worked at the store since 2010, became the owner on Jan. 1, according to the statement.

"She embodies the true spirit of the store and most importantly loves consignment! She knows the business inside and out so the transition will be seamless to you" the statement notes.

The Bedford Hills consignment shop's website describes the history of the place on its website, noting that it was opened by Bedford Hills resident Kathleen Luparello, who had fashion industry experience.

The Facebook statement, signed by her, reflects on the change.

"Leaving The Preppy Turtle has been a very difficult and emotional decision for me. For the past eight years I have loved serving the Northern Westchester community and particularly Bedford Hills. I have thoroughly enjoyed helping you find that perfect dress, a baby gift, a first Bar Mitzvah blazer, snow pants to keep at school or a stunning handbag when you needed a pick-me-up. Many of our customers, I am now proud to call my friends."

Discussing why she is leaving, she writes, "A short term consulting opportunity has turned into a full time job offer for me. I am grateful in this difficult economy to have been offered a position back in the apparel industry, where I began my career."
