The walk is in memory of Peter Alderman, a 9/11 victim whose family lives near by. According to the group's website, the mission of a foundation in his name, which backs the walk, is to "is to heal the emotional wounds of victims of terrorism and mass violence by training indigenous health workers and establishing trauma treatment systems in post-conflict countries around the globe."
