'Tree of Life' Event Includes Music, Memory

Armonk resident Mildred Wago was remembered as part of this year's ceremony in Mount Kisco.

Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam held its annual Tree of Life celebration on Wednesday evening at Mount Kisco's Holiday Inn.

The event included a Christmas tree lighting and high school choir music from Fox Lane and Horace Greeley students.

This year the event was a chance to remember Armonk's Mildred Wago, who was helped by the group until her death.

Wago's daughters, Linda Herbst and Charlene Decker, discussed her life in an interview, which included being North Castle's Receiver of Taxes. Wago's life in Armonk also included involvement with several local organizations, including the Legion and the fire department.

Wago, who died on Aug. 25 at 95, was able to benefit from a promise kept: that she would not have to stay in a nursing home. Decker and Herbst also discussed the hospice in speeches they gave to a crowd, which included praise.
