Leslie Joseph Finch, Known as 'Popeye,' 90

Leslie Joseph Finch died on Jan. 26 at his home and his funeral is on Saturday.

Leslie Joseph Finch, of Mt. Kisco, NY, known by most as “Popeye”, died peacefully at home on January 26th. He was 90 years old.

As a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for more than 70 years, Les served as Business Agent, President and Vice President of Local 1134 in Mt. Kisco. He was the longest serving member of Mt. Kisco Independent Fire Company, a member of the American Legion, Post 136, the Knights of Columbus and an usher at St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Leslie was born August 12, 1922 in New York City to Charles Chapman Finch and Margaret Newman Paice Finch. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Marchiano of Mt. Kisco, his children, Lesley Finch of Trumansburg, NY; Robin Burlingame (Joel) of Mt. Kisco; Jill Finch of Mt. Kisco; Michael Finch (Nancy) of Carmel, NY; Laurie Dennett (Robert) of Mt. Kisco, and Jonathan Finch (Barbette) of Beaumont, TX, 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 5 nephews, and 2 nieces.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia Smythe Finch and his brother Charles Frederick Finch.

Calling hours will be 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM on Friday February 1st at the Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Saturday February 2nd, with interment to follow at St.Francis Cemetery with Full Military Honors

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Independent Fire Company, 322 Lexington Ave., Mt. Kisco, NY 10549.
