What to Do for Sandy Cleanup?

Town of New Castle gives primer on what to do.

(Editor's Note: Below is a copy of a list that New Castle has posted on its website for what residents can do for getting rid of tree debris):

1. Resident tree debris may be brought to the Recycling Center, by residents (Monday-Saturday) or landscapers hired by residents with proof required (Monday-Friday) 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Form to be used as proof may be picked up at Recycling Center or may be downloaded here or from Recycling section of this website. Please click here for the form.

2. During the storm cleanup, landscapers hired by residents (proof required) will be charged 1/2 regular fees. (Regular fees-- $25 per cy for logs; $15 chips; $10 per cy brush)

3. No out of town yard waste will be accepted due to space limitations.

4. Curbside yard waste pickup will start immediately. Brush must be bundled at maximum 4 feet long and weigh less than 60 pounds. Brush over 5 inches in diameter, loose branches and other
material will not be picked up.

5. Town crews are working on picking up Town brush from the streets and the Town right of way. Residents are responsible for their trees and brush.

6. If you have questions, please call the Recycling Department 238-8091 or check Recycling section of this website.

Thank you

We are unclear about who is responsible for removing large upturned stump on the corner bordering our property. Please define the town right of way. Thank you.

I also have that question. The tree that fell into the street and was cut for right of way was within 10 feet of the street. This is not my tree, but you did not make this issue clear in your message.

In response to both comments: This is a re-publishing of the town's guidelines. I would suggesting contacting town officials for clarification. However. I will note that from having covered last week's board meeting, it was explained that the width of a right of way is not the same for every road. It may be narrow for some.

Thanks for posting this - sounds cool. What kind of projects will kids do? Also, can an incoming 6thRead More grader participate?
It's About Time June 6, 2013 at 01:45 pm
Hi Lisa! Thanks for your questions. In this unit (Vehicles In Motion) the kids will build CoasterRead More Cars and test different aspects of the motion of their vehicles such as: distance traveled, acceleration, straightness, and friction. This unit emphasizes student collaboration in order to develop a set of performance test procedures for measuring Coaster Car performance. An incoming sixth grader can definitely join! Feel free to call the number above - my co-worker will be happy to help you.
