Mount Kisco Service Honors Veterans

A gathering was held Monday morning in Mount Kisco for Veterans Day to remember those who have served in the military.

Attendees included members of the local American Legion chapter and various elected officials.

Mayor Michael Cindrich described Veterans Day as being a time to celebrate the patriotism and fighting spirit of the “men and women who fought under our flag to make this world safer for democracy to prevail.”

State Assemblyman David Buchwald talked about recognizing contributions that veterans have made.

A representative from Congresswoman Nita Lowey's office came to read a proclamation.

Kelly Powers, who is with the American Legion's Ladies Auxiliary, noted veterans who were not present at the ceremony, saying they are “all over anywhere you go.”

Peter Senatore, who is commander for the local post and spoke after the ceremony, described veterans as heroes and noted how they served and then returned.

There was a 24-hour guard before the ceremony, according to Cindrich, who is also an American Legion member. It went from 11 a.m. on Sunday to the ceremony, which started at 11 a.m. on Monday. There were shifts taken during that time.

The ceremony included wreath presentations to the village's war memorial, firing of guns by members and a playing of taps.
