Chambers Thanks Chappaqua School Board For Interim Superintendent Appointment

Will replace Fleishman beginning in July.

John Chambers, who was appointed Tuesday by the Board of Education to act as Chappaqua's Interim Superintendent, thanked the board for its decision at its meeting.

"The honor of being here and being named as your interim superintendent is one that delights me," he said.

Chambers, who was superintendent at nearby Byram Hills until two years ago, noted his close relationship with northern Westchester as a region.

"I am delighted to be here, not least of all because I've, I've admired the Chappaqua schools for many years, as your professional neighbor and the districts that [Board of Education President] Jeff [Mester] mentioned. Also, as your residential neighbor. I'm a Katonah resident"

Chambers also stated that he will make himself available to listen.

"I could not be happier to be here. I look forward to working with all of you on the staff in the community, and I hope you will not hesitate to test my skills as a listener and as someone who will always be willing to listen to you."

Chambers will replace David Fleishman - who is leaving and will become superintendent for the school district in Newton, MA - effective July 1. No updates on the search for a permanent superintendent were given at the meeting.
