Greeley Coach DeBellis to See Some Hours, Benefits, Restored for Tech Job

Retirement of two employees allows for budget to include more work, restoration of benefits.

Horace Greeley High School Coach Mike DeBellis could see a less drastic reduction in hours and keep his employee benefits for his day job as a middle school technology teacher.

In an NCCMC recording of Tuesday's school board meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Business John Chow announced that the job would only be reduced from full-time to a 0.7 of a full-time equivalent (FTE). He was also recorded as saying the minimum level to get employee benefits is 0.6 FTE.

Originally, DeBellis' job was slated for a cut to 0.5 FTE, resulting in a loss of benefits, due to changes planned for the schedules at Seven Bridges and Robert E. Bell middle schools. The earlier proposal, according to an earlier NCCMC recording, who are either on the Greeley wrestling team or who had DeBellis as a teacher.

In the video, Chow said that the addtional costs (with salary plus benefits) is $40,000 but will not increase the district's proposed 2012-13 budget. The ability to give back some hours was due to two employees retiring, Chow explained.
